It has always been a challenging task for one to apply for the passport online as some may find it difficult to apply or may not trust the online process. But a major reason which has made me create this blog "Easy Steps to Apply for Passport Online" is that majority of people aren't aware of the fact that the passport can be easily applied online. In this blog, I have covered every single step to apply for the passport online right from scratch. I hope you will find it easy. Initial Step

The very first step to be taken is just to visit the official website facilitated by the government itself and for that click the link given below.

STEPS

STEP 1

Every new user applying for the passport needs to register first and for that, you need to click on the "New User Registration". 

After clicking on "New User Registration" button, you will be redirected to a page shown below in an image where you need to fill in all your personal details.

I would recommend you to create a separate log-in ID apart from keeping your log-in id same as email-id because once you have completed all the process it becomes useless. After completing all the details, click on the "Register" button and you will be done with the registration process. Must remember your log-in Id and password for Further processing. 

After clicking on the "Register", you need to log-in to your email account and there you need to activate the account by clicking on the link sent by the official website to your registered email address. After clicking the activation link, fill in the log-in Id in the appeared text box and a message will be shown to you, informing that you have successfully activated your account.

STEP 2

In this step, go to the home page and click on the "Existing User Login". Fill in the created log-in Id and password, and you will be redirected to the page shown below. Click on "Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport" which is highlighted in the below image.

After this, you will jump to the page shown below and on landing here click on "Click here to fill the application form online" as I would recommend you to fill the form online for the convenience.

After that select the State and District for further processing. The page is shown below.

After filling above details, click on the "Fresh Passport" option and then either click on "Normal" or "Tatkaal" option. If you aren't in hurry then click "Normal" because it would cost you less as compared to Tatkaal service. Additionally, if you want your passport urgently then click on "Tatkaal" but it would cost you higher than "Normal" service. After that, it's totally up to you whether you want 36 pages or 60 pages in your passport. Click on "36 pages" being a normal user and press "Submit".

Now comes the crucial steps from here. Please follow sincerely and fill in true information being asked by the page.

STEP 3

In this step, fill in the asked applicant details. The image is shown below for the reference.

After filling the details, make sure to click the "Yes" checkbox to agree with the terms and conditions and then press the "Next" button.

STEP 4

After completing step 3, you will be redirected to the page shown below where you need to fill in all the required family details. After filling, just press "Next".

STEP 5

After you have completed Step 4, you will get redirected to a page shown below where you need to fill in all the necessary details regarding your present address. For ease, you can take help of your aadhaar card so that you can be sure that all the filled details are correct.

Click on "Yes" options at the last if your permanent address is the same as the present address.

STEP 6

Upon the completion of step 5, you will jump to the page shown below where you are supposed to fill in the details of an emergency contact. It's required because, if the officials find themselves unable to contact on your registered contact number then they can switch to an emergency contact number with which they can share your further processing. So fill all the details and click on "Next".

STEP 7

Upon reaching this step, you will see a page shown below for reference, click on "Details Not Available / Never Held Diplomatic / Official Passport" as you are applying for the fresh passport. Since you have never applied for the passport previously, so click on "No" to the last asked detail and with this you are done with this step. At last press the "Next" button.

STEP 8

Just click on "No" in an answer to every ques being asked here to you if you don't have had any criminal records and you are done with this step too. See the image shown below for this step. At last, click on the "Next" button.

STEP 9

This is a very crucial step to apply for the passport online. Upon landing this page, you will be shown with a preview of your original passport details and you need to check every detail and if you find anything wrong then just click on "Prev" button to rectify the mistakes done previously. And if you find the details shown on the preview to be correct then simply press the "Next" button.

STEP 10

Now you have reached on the self-declaration step, where you are supposed to give a proof of birth and present residential address. I would recommend you to choose "Aadhaar Card/E-Adhaar" to provide proofs of both or you can opt for any other option according to your convenience. Additionally, I would recommend you to click on the checkbox if you want to enroll for 'Passport Seva SMS Services' as it's very helpful to know the current status of your processing. But it would cost you ₹50 to activate this service. At last, fill the details asked below and click on "I Agree" option to continue with the processing.

STEP 11

In this step, click on "Pay and Schedule Appointment" and either choose "Online payment" or "Challan Payment". Payments can be made easily if you possess either a debit card or credit card and if you have one then go for online payments. But if you don't have then go for Challan payments. Make sure that once payment is made then it won't be refunded to you and if payment is successfully done then don't make payments again.

STEP 12

Booking the appointment, for this click on the "View Submitted Application" option given in the Services column and fill the asked appointment details and book the appointment for you. With the completion of this step, you are done with your work to apply for the passport online.

Checking Details

View Saved/Submitted Applications >  Select Application Reference Number. You will find a table under the row where you will find every detail regarding your passport like Appointment Details, Payment Status and more.
